Attract Direct Marketing Attention with this Unusual Bobbing Movement

Marketing professionals visit our website to find unusual direct marketing pieces such as pop-ups and interactive mailers. Pop-ups are popular thanks to the element of surprise that they bring to a B2B marketing campaign. Many of our interactive mailers are popular because of the sophistication of the movement but in other instances, the attraction of a product may be because they are just unusual or quirky. One example is the product which we call the Bobbing Duck.

This amusing promotional pop-up features a duck bobbing up and down in the water and the action is created by turning a little wheel on the side. The irregular movement of this pop-up product has been used with other graphics but it is particularly suited to suggesting movement on water eg a boat.

The movement is created in a similar way to how a flywheel and crankshaft operate. The wheel at the side of the sleeve is eyeletted at the centre and is turned in an even, circular motion by the user. Within the sleeve, the duck is connected to the wheel by a long shaft which is eyeletted to the wheel in an off-centre position. When the wheel is turned, the shaft moves up and down with it but as the die-cut duck is held within a slot, the movement is somewhat irregular – like a “bobbing” motion.

The Bobbing Duck, lends itself to a variety of creative ideas. The pop up movement is described as “bobbing” and so would suit a ship bobbing along on the sea given the right graphic design. Another marketing idea for this interactive pop up product could involve bobbing for apples which is a Halloween custom and could make a fun Halloween card.
