Northern Ireland Consumer Council Chooses Folding Pocket Media for New Corporate Plan

When the Northern Ireland Consumer Council called in Neil Shiels of Belfast agency, Monkeybug, to discuss plans for print production of their new Corporate Plan, they handed him something of a problem. What the Consumer Council wanted was an information handout that people would actually look at, remember and keep for reference.

Shiels knew instantly that a leaflet or booklet failed to tick the boxes and so he needed to come up with something different – but something that wouldn’t break the bank.

Shiels explained his early thinking, “Just think about when people hand you an A4 flyer in the street. As stupid as it sounds it’s just too much hassle for most people to keep hold of that one sheet of paper so they instantly start looking for the next litter bin so they can dispose of it at the earliest opportunity. That same thing could happen to the Consumer Council’s Corporate Plan.”

“In order to fulfil the Consumer Council’s requirements the Plan had to be produced on a product that was not only eye-catching but also something that was easy to keep”, said Shiels, “and the company with all the answers is Whitney Woods.”

“The company publishes a range of interactive marketing pieces and promotional pop-up mailers – including a range of pocket – sized media products”, he explained. “I know that making something pocket sized or easy to fit into a purse or handbag makes it easier to keep but the trick is to choose a product that captures the imagination, too. That’s why I suggested the Starburst style of folding pocket media. It offers plenty of room for print and has this really impressive folding mechanism. The Consumer Council’s Corporate Plan easily fits into a jacket pocket but it opens up to a size greater than A4 and it does it with a certain flourish.”

The Consumer Council are very happy with Monkeybug’s design which included a finish of spot UV varnish to give the graphics a little lift and are overall very impressed with the product which has also been used in a promotional mailing.
