Requirements

Global Care’s aim is to support the poorest and most vulnerable children and young people, through education, vocational training, feeding and welfare care and in some cases residential care.

With the support of churches, schools, individuals and families, through fundraising and sponsorship, Global Care develop new and existing projects.

“We have three appeals each year to help raise funds for our projects; one at Lent, one in summer and one at Christmas. It’s vital we make each appeal a success to help us carry on our work.”

For Lent 2017, Global Care planned a ‘Bring Change’ campaign. The focus was to bring change to children living in poverty in a remote and neglected corner of Myanmar.

“With the help of our supporters, our aim was to raise £9000 to continue the valuable work we do with the Karenni people for another year.”

All monies raised through this initiative would support their work with Karenni families, a minority ethnic tribe still suffering the effects of over fifty years of civil war.

With an army of supporters on their database Global Care knew who they would reach out to.

“We would be contacting all the supporters on our database to tell them about the Bring Change Appeal. We really needed to get them onboard with fundraising to help us reach our target.”

Global Care put together information about the problems faced in Myanmar along with the help that could be achieved by the success of the Bring Change campaign.  They decided that sending this information through the post would offer a more personal feel and offer a better rate of success than sending and email.

“Our letter would ask supporters to help us raise funds to secure the project for another 12 months. Including a collection box with every letter would offer a strong call to action and encourage them to get involved.”

Global Care also created a ‘Lent challenge’ and included details in the letter. The challenge encouraged supporters to fill the collection box with various amounts according to the challenge for that day or week.

“This was the first time we’d sent collection boxes out to everyone in the post. Finding collection boxes that could be folded flat was really useful, and important to the success of the overall appeal.”

The cardboard collection boxes are supplied flat and fit easily into a C5 envelope so they can be mailed as a UK Letter.  Weighing just few grams each they enabled Global Care to keep the cost of postage nice and low.

“Lots of people engaged with filling up the boxes and we raised over £9000 which was excellent.

We still have people giving us boxes even now, and it has encouraged some people to keep filling the boxes, and then giving us their lose change periodically.”

Comments

“We were really pleased with the support, and the prompt response and answers to questions. I haven’t done this kind of project before, so the service from Whitney Woods was excellent.

We would definitely consider doing something like this again, we like to keep our appeals varied and interesting. “
